Biostimulator Injections (aka Sculptra) are made up of Poly-L Lactic Acid- a biocompatible synethic substance that has been used in the medical field for many years and is what dissolvable sutures are made from. Biostimulator treatments work by stimulating collagen production in the areas injected. Once collagen build up has occured, the biodegradable particles are then absorbed by the body. This then leaves the natural collagen structures that your body has built in place.
Biostimulators have the ability to provide both volumisation and increased skin tightness.
As we age our body produces less collagen and our elastin fibres thin down. Elastin and collagen essentially are the scaffolding of our face and when we start to lose these, we experience facial 'sagging', fine lines and wrinkles.
With biostimulators you will not see results straight away- because it is stimulating your body to produce collagen in those areas, you will find results are gradual over a period of a few months, with continual improvement over the course of a year. You generally will need two initial treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, with then one annual maintenance treatment (although this can vary depending on individual factors)
As with any medical procedure, there are risks and side effects associated with treatments. It is important you have a thorough consultation so you are aware of potential risks of treatment and you are able to have informed consent prior to treatment.
