As we get older, we start to age within all our facial layers; Bone, Fat, Muscle & Skin
Bone: As we age, we experience bone resorption; this basically means that certain areas of our skull will actually start to recede. Our skull is the structural foundation of our face, so losing this support in certain areas will cause the overlying tissues and structures to sag/shift.
In addition to this, we have both Superficial and Deep fat compartments under our skin- Certain compartments are prone to fat loss (Eg. mid cheek) and others will accumulate fat (eg. Jowl Fat). This loss and hypertrophy of fat will cause shifting of the fat pads, with them eventually starting to descent and cause the appearance of jowling, sunken eyes, marionette lines etc.

The most common Treatment used for volume restoration is what most people know as 'dermal filler'. Essentially there are a few different types of dermal fillers, however the most common type is made up of Hyaluronic Acid, which is a naturally occuring sugar that is present within our bodys. HA is hydrophillic, meaning is draws moisture to an area.
Dermal fillers are not all made the same- Manufacturers are able to add different degrees of modification and cross-linking to made some dermal fillers thick and viscious, and others very thin and watery. It is important to know that some dermal fillers are not suitable for some areas and can cause unnatural-looking results.
Other volume enhancing options available at Skin & Soul include Biostimulators
Dermal Filler administration is a medical procedure, hence there are risks and side effects that can be associated with them. It is important to discuss these with your Cosmetic Injector so you have full informed disclosure and consent prior to receiving any treatments.
